Former Rising Tide Swimmer & Coach Benefits from Program

My name is Kellie Seward and I am a 2007 graduate of Coshocton High School where I was a member of the varsity swim team for four years and was captain my senior year.  When I look back over the years of the time that I have spent in Rising Tide, I realize that so many of the things that I have experienced would not have been possible if I had not had a program like Rising Tide to start out in.

I am currently a senior at the University of Mount Union in Alliance Ohio, where I am majoring in early childhood education. This will be my final year as a member of the Mount Union varsity swim team, and I will act as captain for this team also.  If it were not for Rising Tide I do not know if I would have ever begun swimming let alone be the captain of my college team.  Swimming is a very large time commitment.  On top of taking a full class load and observing in elementary school classrooms I spend over 25 hours in the pool during an average week.

Even though it is such a large commitment, I would not trade one single day of it.  With the Raider's swim team I have had many opportunities, some of which will benefit me in the future and some that have just been really great experiences.  I have had the privilege of working swim clinics throughout the school year which teach young children the four strokes of swimming and other important aspects of the sport.  This will benefit me when I become a teacher because it gives me more experience with young children.  I have also, for four years, been privileged enough to travel to Florida over winter break where the team trains and competes.  How many people can say that they have had opportunities like these?

Starting my senior year of high school I had the great privilege and responsibility of coaching Rising Tide in the summers.  I just finished my fourth year coaching and have loved every minute of it.  I believe that Rising Tide has given me so many opportunities over the years.  It is where I met so many of my best friends, my mentors, and where I found my love for a sport that I am sure will stay with me for the rest of my life.

So, I would just like to say thank you to Rising Tide as a community and all of its supporters.  Don't forget you are shaping children's lives every day.
